In response to a recent order, work is currently underway towards building a newly conceived instrument which has been tentatively named the "tárogató d'amore".  Pitched in the alto range - possible tonalities are F, Eb and C - it has a smaller bore than a saxophone of the same size, and a globular bell similar to the English horn.  The resulting sound will be darker and more "woody" than existing alto and bass tárogatós (which are for the most part close copies of saxophones, and consequently do not have a very distinctive sound), somewhat akin to that of the heckelphone.
